About this Guide

Day of Remembrance -- Japanese American Internment and Executive Order 9066

February 19, 2017 marks the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066.  This led to more than 100,000 Japanese Americans along the Pacific Coast—most of them U.S. citizens—being forced from their homes and into federal detention camps. According to the Japanese American Citizens League, commemorating Executive Order 9066 "is an opportunity to educate others on the fragility of civil liberties in times of crisis, and the importance of remaining vigilant in protecting the rights and freedoms of all." This guide provides a list of local events, books, online resources and articles related to the internment of Japanese Americans.
